Meyer Scholars

A generous gift of $1 million from New York-based entrepreneur Anthony E. Meyer, Vice Chair of Macaulay’s Foundation Board, and his wife Miraldina was made in June 2015 for Macaulay’s Opportunities Fund. The gift is being used in support of international study abroad for Macaulay’s highest achieving students, known as Meyer Scholars, and has enabled the selection of the first students to benefit from the donation. This year’s first class of 57 Meyer Scholars were selected on the basis of their high academic achievement, with an average GPA of 3.9.

The Opportunities Fund provides an award of up to $7,500 to each of the school’s students, about 70 percent of whom use the funds for study abroad. Private support from individuals, foundations and corporations is the entire source of funding for the Opportunities Fund.

The Opportunities Fund is available to every Macaulay Honors College student to use to extend and deepen his or her educational experience while at Macaulay. To date, Macaulay scholars have augmented their academic careers through study abroad in 30 countries. The Fund is a great enabling force behind the school’s experiential learning programs of study abroad, internships, research and service. Macaulay students represent the top graduates of New York high schools as they set out to meet the challenges of learning and leadership in an increasingly global environment.
