Weyerhaeuser and Aymium Enter Agreement to Rapidly Scale Biocarbon Market
Weyerhaeuser Company and Aymium have entered into a memorandum of understanding to jointly produce and supply large-scale volumes of sustainable biocarbon for use in metals production. As an initial step, the companies have formed a joint venture, TerraForge Biocarbon Solutions, to develop a new production facility adjacent to Weyerhaeuser’s lumber mill in McComb, Mississippi. The facility will use a low-emissions, combustion-free process to convert wood fiber into metallurgical-grade biocarbon.
Over the next five years, the partnership plans to identify additional sites and expand production capacity across Weyerhaeuser’s manufacturing footprint. At full scale, the platform is expected to convert millions of tons of sustainably sourced wood fiber into biocarbon annually, providing a renewable, drop-in alternative to coal and coke in iron, steel, and other metals production.
The collaboration combines Weyerhaeuser’s extensive timberland resources and manufacturing infrastructure with Aymium’s proprietary biocarbon technology and established customer relationships. The initiative supports broader decarbonization efforts within heavy industry while creating new demand for sustainable fiber and supporting regional economic development.
